Interview Question:
I've come across this question at most places I've interviewed and would appreciate it if people could kind of explain their investment thesis in regards to certain commercial real estate asset classes and markets:
If you were given $100m to invest in commercial real estate, what specific asset classes would you invest in and in what market(s)? How would you diversify your portfolio? Explain your reasoning.
I said this before and stand by it, as long as your logic is sound (e.g., converting old office to apartments, geographic focus, whatever) they won't really care, but you'd had better include whatever investment group that you're interviewing for. If they invest in everything you have more range, but if you're going to work for that ag real estate guy that posted on here today you better at least pretend you believe in the strategy and would put money toward it.
