Interviewing timeline somewhat of a rant*

My interview process for a significant brokerage/IS team (Eastdil, CBRE, JLL, HFF, C&W) in a top market is going on one and a half months. At a rate of 1 interview a week. In person ever since the phone screen, these interviews consist of multiple team members each sit-down. Who else can I expect to meet? Their wives? I've already started to learn how to model complex baking techniques just in case it happens.

I have a friend who is 3 months in for a similar gig.. it happens. Don't stop pursuing other opportunities.

I'm in a similar position for a top 5 brokerage (not CBRE/JLL) in NYC and the process has been taking forever.

Job was listed in January, first contact with recruiter was early to mid-March, spoke with MD last week, and now awaiting next steps, all while the MD is outta the country for the next two weeks. Really sucks man but nothing else to do except to keep applying to new opps and refreshing that Gmail.

"Jiggy95" Yeah it's mentally exhausting. Continually relearning the economic drivers of a particular market, keeping up with recent deals, and just staying fresh for that many engagements is tough. The amount of facetime is crazy.

So... in other words, doing what you'll have to do if they give you a job? It sucks to go through a long interview process, but it's kind of ridiculous to complain that you have to do all this work, when that's what you'll be asked to do if hired. They don't owe you a position and you're free to accept another job.

It's partly because they are non-committal/disorganized, and partly because they are seeing how long you can stick it out. This business is a war of attrition on both the brokerage and principal side. It takes a lot of time to get traction in most arenas of this business especially when it comes to sourcing business (listings and acquisition opportunities). If you're annoyed at the interview process then you should know that the brokerage team you're interviewing for deals with this all the time. It takes client relationships/deals months, sometimes years, to manifest into a transaction.

....wut? The NDA signatory/evaluation process often takes a month... why do you think there's such a long lead time between when a deal is launched and the call for offers date??
