Is Blackstone the first firm to consolidate on a massive scale?

Recently saw Pitchbook's Global Real Estate Report and noticed that Blackstone consistently places top on league tables. I'm only in college now, but I find it insane that they're multiples higher than other companies/funds. This might be a naive question, but within the past 20-30 years is BX the only company that has been able to grow and consolidate this well? It seems they're just so far beyond their competition
