Layoffs in Recession?!?

With the possibility of recession/depression arising in the cycle (interest rates rising) mixed with inflation, I wanted to try and get insight about what businesses really hurt in down cycles. Ex. brokers, small bank vs big bank, small fund or big... Which would be a bad idea to start as an analyst right before a crash? Thankful for any input!

If you believe a recession is coming you probably don’t want to be an investment sales broker. With that said, I’ve been told there would be a recession every year since I’ve graduated college. They’ve only been correct once. Go after the job you want to do and get experience where you want to get experience. While it’s smart to be thinking ahead, what if you want to do acquisitions but because of a looming recession you take a job in lending, believing it’s more stable, but than you get laid off, or just have a hard time transitioning to acquisitions? It’s really hard to predict the future. The best you can do is go after what you want and work through the rough spots - we all hit a rough spot in our career - more than once.
