Leaving FT Job for Internship
All -
Currently, I am working in retail leasing. I work for a company that has a great name and is very well known in the industry, but my office is on location at one of the assets and I barely get to meet anyone. I am an email address to 99% of the company which is making me feel like I have no chance to move up. In fact, when I was being on boarded, I was told I would be meeting the HR rep that recruited me and my boss on my first day. Neither of them decided to come and instead just called me. Of a company of 400+ employees, I have met less than 5 of them. That being said, I recently started a RE Master's program at a school with a really reputable name, so I am back eligible for internships. Obviously I would prefer full time jobs but I went to a semi-target with a liberal arts degree so I don't think I can lateral into a more analytical role before I graduate. This has led me to seek out internships and I came across a promising lead with (Eastdil/HFF). That is the route I want to go, my question is that if I'm offered the opportunity to do this internship, would this be better than being full time at my current firm? I could potentially be unemployed for some time after the end of the internship until I find a new role. I have no debt, no bills, and live with my parents if that changes your opinion. Any advice would be very appreciated.
If you are offered the internship I would 1000% take it especially since you can pay all of your bills and don't have to worry about money. Assuming you met some of your coworkers, and boss during the interview and got good vibes from them.
HFF/Eastdil both look great on a resume. Not to mention since it is a internship, if you hate it you could leave after a few months and it won't look bad.
You are in a perfect position to re-brand yourself.
