You’re not entitled to the job you want. Sometimes there are better candidates. Sometimes there are other reasons (like the overall real estate job market being terrible.)
After hundreds of apps (and being extremely qualified) I have the right to vent. Market is broken.
If you’re getting rejected from ATS despite being extremely qualified, maybe try updating your resume with different keywords to see if you can start getting picked up more often?

It is substantially harder to get looks without a job than with one.

Hard truth is talent will always get poached, and lots of groups today are trying to poach as much as possible if a role becomes available.
Not trying to pile on, but why are you going through an ATS if you have an existing relationship at the firm?
Job market is tough, yes, but people are still landing CRE roles. There is something to be said about that, not "nothing is working".

Nothing that hasn't been said before. Target roles you know you're qualified for, speak to your experience intelligently, network with team members, know the firm's thesis, etc. There are no hidden secrets to this.
This will sound like unc shit but truthfully there were jobs over the years that I drooled over and obsessed over and wanted to land so badly. Looking back, I’m glad that I didn’t, in most cases.
I once dreamed of working at a certain large real estate advisor in the northeast with a diversified series of funds in the US and a significant European presence. I never ended up there. Now they appear to be losing tons of senior people and rumors are that it’s not a good place to be.
Similarly, I lost out on a role at an emerging firm with an industrial GP fund. Seemed like the coolest place on earth. A friend of mine is there now, and it’s fine, but I realize now that it wouldn’t have been a good fit for me.
Now I’m certainly not trying to minimize your pain. I just mean that we sometimes overweight the glory of a specific role at a specific firm.

When the job market is this fried, nepotism and who you know really comes in to play.
You think you have a better reference or app but I promise there is someone with the same app and a more cracked dad who can hooked them up.
There are no roles for entry level and assoc and VP levels are crowded af from COVID hiring. It is genuinely just horrific out there.

You constantly espouse inflammatory bullshit all over this site, yet you’re so detached from / uninformed about recruiting processes that you actually don’t know what an ATS is?
When you never get fired you don’t recruit. So no, I’ve been lucky enough to not have had to recruit hard ever really. Every time I’ve left a gig, someone from the new bank reached out to me.
