London - Is the recruiting market heating up or is it me?
Is it just me, or is the real estate recruiting market heating up? Been getting pinged by several recruiters lately and noticed an uptick in LinkedIn ads. Curious—are you seeing the same trend, or is this just a coincidence on my end?
Sort of a similar story for me. For context I work in RE Credit, and I’ve received messages from a number of recruiters on LinkedIn for lateral opportunities. I suppose firms have optimistic targets to hit through hell or high water on the back of an uncertain 2024 and so are full guns blazing this year in recruitment and deploying capital.
Agreed with the assessment, they've got no choice but to deploy - otherwise their LPs will look elsewhere.
Good news for me. Currently taking time off planning to come back for June 25. Noticed any specific sectors or role types that are hot or is everything improving?
The usual suspects: multifamily, logistics, life sciences and data centers.
Yeah nice. Cheers
Seeing the same trend.
But unfortunately, I am a graduate looking for an entry-level position but it seems like opportunities are for experienced Analysts only
Sad but true—firms want juniors with 1-2 years of experience. Best bet is to hustle for internships or work placements to stack up that experience.
Exact same problem here. Already have 16 months of IB + RE deal exp through Tier 1 internships but not valued at all.
Wait you have 1.5 years of IB experience and the shops won’t look at you?
Thanks for the advice. I have accumulated 12 months of internships in IB (MM and EB) and 6 months in Big 4 but it seems like they are only considering FT experience. Would you advise completing another internship in a reputed firm or starting a job in less recognized firm with the hope of lateraling a year after ?
Definitely, the second option will probably open more doors. In real estate, actual FT deal experience carries a lot more weight. That said, doing another internship with the hope of converting can be a solid move too. Just my view—others might see it differently.
Ok understood, thank you very much, super helpful!
What about continental candidates? Are firms more prone to provide sponsorships?
If you're a German speaker, there’s been a solid amount of offers coming up. Otherwise, firms typically look at local candidates first, and even at the junior level, there’s been a significant influx of people entering the market.
Depends what languages you speak and if the target markets are "hot". What language skills do you possess and are you already in London?
Had a chat with a couple of recruiters today to confirm the above. It looks like this activity stems from December mandates being pushed into the new year. Let’s see if this momentum holds up in the coming weeks.
