Making partner in REPE at a large firm

I'm sure it varies from firm to firm, but in your opinion, what does it take to make partner broadly speaking? Other than a demonstrated ability to source profitable transactions. For ex, if you look at some REPE firms (BX in particular), there are partners in their early - mid 30s. What did they do right?

It’s partially right place / right time. Those guys in their mid 30s likely started at blackstone a decade earlier. Over the last 10 years, Blackstone RE has seen incredible growth. Which means there is more room to promote people to partner.

There is also a popularity aspect. Most of the REPE partners I’ve met are pretty confident / cool / nice guys. I’m sure there are exceptions, but being likable is very important.
