Midweek timing of resignation?
My new job offer is expected to come in Tuesday or Wednesday this week. Would you put in your resignation ASAP or would you wait till the following Monday? Either way I want my last day to be on a Friday so the difference is 2.5 week notice vs 2 weeks. How would you all play it?
Brother, you are waaaaaay overthinking this.
When you agree on the offer (which should include salary and benefit negotiation...), sit down with your boss in their office and break the news. If your bosses are anything like my previous bosses, they might be hard to pin down, so you might plan on doing it on a Wednesday and still not be able to tell them until Monday.
More importantly, it does not matter what day of the week you give your notice, nor do you have to strategerize your way into getting an extra half a week off. Give Company A a two weeks' notice and tell Company B you need an extra week to get affairs in order. Boom: now you have three weeks! Repeat as necessary.
Good point about even being able to pin down my senior but I'd be able to just walk into her office. I guess I was more worried about midweek being awkward/inconvenient for people (having to schedule a transition meeting for ASAP etc) but sooner the better is probably a good policy, and then it would just be a 2.5 week notice.
the way you write this.. are you quitting based on when you think the offer letter is coming in?
You should get it first, let background check clear, confirm start date, etc etc etc before telling a soul
Then give two weeks notice on a Friday. More weeks notice if you’re more senior and like them and want to help them unwind/transition your role.

I'd be quitting based on receiving the offer and clearing background check (I already cleared it because they pre-screened). Why should I resign on a Friday instead of first thing Monday morning? We are remote on Friday and I'd want to do it in person. But I hear ya on the no right way to do it. Just wasn't sure if midweek would be strange/awkward timing and if I should stick to a traditional 2 week notice.
I would wait until you accept and ask for a start date from new company.
I said Friday solely bc you said you want your last day to be a Friday so it would be full 2 weeks / 10 days notice plus a good news dump for a Friday PM lol.
But yes— do it in person. The day doesn’t matter too much.
I wouldn’t quit yet personally until absolutely everything’s locked down and you have a start date. But again, I’m just cynical/paranoid. If you feel like everythings done, go for it.

Do it on the soonest in-person day after signing and confirming your new start date. Having some overlap only protects you. Never going to be a clean 2 weeks exactly unless you let them know the instant you accept.
