Misspelled Interview's Name on Thank You Email
I misspelled my interviewers name on my thank-you email for a RE Debit role. The interviewer was fairly high up, but our call itself went very well. Am I completely screwed or do I still have hope? Should I send a quick email back correcting the spelling of her name?
Yes, but keep it professional
I wouldn't send a follow up, personally it would bother me more that you were that stressed about it.
I wouldn't want to work at a shop that dings someone for this. Happens all the time on the job, I probably see one misspelling/typo in names every couple weeks.
Exactly my sentiment, if the person harps on something like this then not someone you want to work for or with. I see awful typos and we will joke around with each other but only after we have worked together for a while.
Don’t worry. You’ll be fire
Honestly, you sent a thank you that is more than most. People make mistakes. I wouldn’t bother with a follow up.
This. The bigger mistake is not sending a thank you, and people make this mistake far more often than a misspelt name. If it's autocorrect on a mobile, that's even less of an issue. I hate autocorrect, it's always ducking wrong with names.
If it was an obvious typo you’re good.
If you did something like put Brad instead of Chad…keep applying.
Sending a quick 2nd follow up isn’t a horrible idea keep it super, super brief and don’t really apologize for it.
Not only in the thank you email, but just in the few sentences of text you have 2 additional typos...
I wouldn't worry, obviously not the best look and a reminder to proofread your emails a few times before you send it but the interviewer will probably read over it see the mistake and forget in 5 minutes because they're so busy and working on live deals. They might compile it as smart guy, call went well, misspelled name not the best look, but I'll give him a shot with the understanding you'll proofread all your work and noticed the mistake.
No you're fine. The debit people are much nicer than the credit folks and figured you made a mistake!
Once sent a follow up to email to someone in a higher up position at the firm his name was Doug and it autocorrected to “Dough”.
Which to me seems like an insult, but stuff happens all the time. Apologize, and continue on. Stuff like this happens all the time, don’t worry about it.
Completely screwed, probably blackballed from the industry - I bet he called all his friends and showed them your typo and told them all to ding you.
I would suggest you move to China/Japan or the Middle East some place that doesn't use Latin script text - that way the disgrace of your typo will never be understood by your peers.
