Move to Dream City w/o Job for relationship or take Brokerage/REPE offers
I have a few months until I graduate undergrad at a non-target and I'm quickly approaching a point where I will have to decide to either turn down several offers I have received over the past couple months (in two cities I have no interest in working in) or I can move to my dream city(SF/NY/LA) (likely without a job if I can't secure anything there by end of May) to be with my significant other who i've been seeing long distance for several years already.
I've been networking the past 6 months in the dream city but haven't gotten much traction and it's getting to the point where I may graduate without a job. I don't want to move to a completely new city without a job but I also don't want the possibility of breaking up with my SO because we have to do long-distance for several more years.
How difficult is it to find entry-level positions at RE shops in cities like (SF/NY/LA)? ie. would I be screwing myself by passing up my current offers to take a chance at finding a good job in a gateway market postgrad?
Curious if anyone else has faced this before and what they ended up doing.
Don’t make decisions based on a relationship if you’re not married or don’t have kids. Believe me.
The CRE job market is competitive in those cities. Even with experience, comp can be pretty low and many shops with give you a technical test. So if you’re competent in financial modeling and understand real estate, the move may be worth it.
If you’re not, take a job where you are for a year or two. Get some solid experience and then move to the city you want to live in.
My 2 cents.
I concur the job market is very tough right now. Took me a while to get a couple offers together.
OP if you happen to come to LA then PM me. I’ll give you some contacts of people who are hiring.
