Moving From Dallas to Charleston

I currently work for an owner operator on the investments team in Dallas. Background is retail ,but I am fairly asset class agnostic. Anyone able to provide firms to reach out to that are hiring?

Can't help too much with an extensive list of firms, but make sure you check out the 800lb gorilla in town. Greystar does more than just multi (especially now with how shit market rate multi is).

Sounds like you’re committed for personal reasons but be weary Charleston is extremely small opportunity set especially compared to Dallas. Not a ton of firms, comp will generally be lower, and it’s a HCOL market no cap.

The firms mentioned above outside of Beach probably have the best comp.

Other firms to check out: Middle Street, Blaze Capital, Beemok, Ziff Real Estate, East West, Jamestown had a role recently, Milburn & Co.

All the major brokerages have outposts as well.

Will add the CHS lifestyle is truly unparalleled. Incredible city…it’s just a better market to move to already rich than to try to get rich in, given limited opportunity set to more dynamic markets. Not saying it can’t happen in CHS, but you’re going to need to be an entrepreneur or already have bread to get that South of Broad or Old Village crib these days ;)

thank you! I have not reached out to Beemok, so I will give them a try. Assuming you are familiar with the area given the thorough list and knowing about the Jamestown role?

Jamestown is a great company but they'll work you like a dog.

Bigger-picture, be aware that Charleston is very insular, culturally. It's a city with a small town mentality. Be aware that you (and your family, if you have one) may have a more difficult time making friends and whatnot because locals only hang out with the same people they went to elementary school with.

elements of truth here, but outside of high society SOTB, vast majority of folks are transplants.  So find the right school, church, neighborhood and be a good classmate  / parents / parishoner / neighbor, and you'll make friends even if you're a carpet baggin yankee.   :)

Also, keep in mind that the fifth generation folks look down at third generation and new arrivals as being the exact same.   You just have to win them over by being normal, friendly, staying in your lane and making small talk about college football.  The hardest part will be finding the job that pays for your lifestyle when you're not the scion of a fifth generation construction / insurance / banking family-owned biz.  godspeed

They are hyper focused on grabbing people from Greystar or specifically SFR backgrounds. Great team just selective in hiring even though they have a plethora of roles open. I appreciate the feedback regardless.
