MSRE/MSRE-D directly from undergrad amid potential recession?

It's pretty clear that there are adverse short-term and long-term effects of entering the workforce during a recession - (https://siepr.stanford.edu/research/publications/…). Assuming there is a legitimate passion for the industry, and the cost of the program is not of concern, do you think there is value going directly from undergrad to an MSRE program?

Many thanks in advance.

So, I am not going to argue with the Stanford study, I would generally agree and can cite some personal examples of people I know who fit the characteristics described.. BUT..

The study is talking about generalized cases... not ALL cases, i.e. not you personally. Go google studies about firms that started in a recession, they can be very resilient and long-lasting. I don't know what you are looking to do, but writing off the job market because of COVID-19 seems crazy. If you GET a job, then you are no longer a statistic. Your first few years generally suck anyway, might as well get the over with during a period of low upsides.

If you don't get a job in a reasonable time frame, then going to grad school isn't a terrible idea. But you can always go to grad school, even in a year or two. Those studies are useful for policy and general understanding, but TERRIBLE to get personal career advice or clues from. The world hasn't ended yet.
