New to real estate - how to start?

I’m an undergrad at a top 15 school that does not have a developed real estate program. I’m transitioning out of a tech career trajectory and want to work in real estate private equity but have pretty much zero experience and don’t know how to start building my resume.

What experiences typically make someone competitive for the analyst positions in real estate and is a summer analyst internship basically mandatory considering scarcity of full time seats? Is it possible to transition from tech IB directly into real estate PE? I’m trying to gain experience doing valuations at a big four, but unsure if it’s viewed the same way in real estate given lack of real estate focus.
