Northwood Investors Culture
Hey, I've tried looking on Google and on this forum and found a lot about Northwood's background, what they invest in, and their comp but haven't really been able to find out much about their culture. I'm interviewing for an internship there next week and just curious about what I should expect in terms of hours
I don't know about Northwood specifically but anywhere with >$5B AUM is going to have long hours.
Interesting firm. Founded by ex-Blackstone executives. The culture is like what Blackstone was like in the 80s before they got too big; entrepreneurial, collegiate etc. They don't just look at RE but also the PropTech industry as well. Deal flow is rather heavy as they are not restricted to a particular sector in real estate, geography or risk spectrum (however their primary targets are value add and opportunistic strategies). There is a lot of interaction between the global offices, one of the perks being that employees get to go on a number of international asset plans/sit visits. Another perk they have is their mentorship programme which grads and interns are paired with from the get-go, which shows the firm's commitment to bringing up talent. Hours due to the ex-Blackstone culture are long, around 70-80+ per week. Comp will follow suit, probably around £60-70K (GBP) with a 20-50% bonus for a 1st-year Analyst. It is a great place to learn about real estate. The training would not be as structured as a larger institutional house and more ad-hoc and learning on the job etc.
Wow imagine working 80 hours for 60K GBP…
Have a friend there. Enjoys it a lot. Has noted juniors work a lot. Many nights until 10PM-12AM plus weekend work when needed. as you move up the travel really ramps up to see deals you’re looking at.
Bump, any addition insight/changes in the last 2ish years?
Really really rough. 90% of people don't get promoted / get the boot all while getting grinded into the ground 6 days a week. Know someone who spent 2.5 years there working 15 hours a day and only did 1 deal the entire time. Also hear they're in a bit of a fundraising pickle. Wouldn't recommend
any idea what ballpark comp was? seems like people who have joined/left either were at or went to very reputable firms, interesting to hear the lack of promotion. Is that the same from Denver to NYC in terms of getting cranked on hours?
Bump
