NYU MSRE vs Fordham MSRE* Thoughts

I was recently accepted in NYU (42 credits) but considering Fordham (36 credits) due to the credit and tuition difference of $20,000. My goals are to network and transition from Property Manager to Finance. I am interested in reading some thoughts and opinions on the subject.

I graduated from Fordham and probably one of ~5 kids in our business school's graduating class to go into RE straight out of UG. I have considered Fordham's MSRE but due to the fact they just created the program is making me very hesitant to apply. NYU is my number 1 right now and I know I would get accepted to both if I applied.

Not sure if that helped.

It’s going to take a good amount of time for them to build up a reputation in the NYC area relative to RE. No matter how good the program is currently structured (I don’t know if they are or not), at the end of the day, NYU and Columbia have years of producing quality RE professionals. There’s hundreds of graduates from each per year and firms have their pick of the litter from those two.

Starting the Fordham MSRE program at the end of this month. Chose Fordham because the Director actually ran NYU's MSRE program for 24 years, and its $20k+ cheaper than NYU. Separately, a number of the teacher's resumes are very impressive and used to teach at NYU/will be now teaching at both. In addition, the program is incredibly flexible, streamlined and allows me to maintain my current position while studying. Let me know any questions you have and I'll do my best to answer.

Although other comments in the thread are correct that it will take some time to build up the reputation in NYC RE, Fordham has a strong reputation among NYC professionals in general (no idea why).

About 4/5 professors in the MSRE program were either previously at NYU, or are teaching at both Fordham and NYU. Seems the MSRE program director managed to pull a lot of the same talent. I assume this is good for the reputation, but it may be an unknown fact.

I was accepted to both Fordham and NYU MSRE and went Fordham due to the price difference. In total the difference is closer to $30k.

I will be graduating in December of this year. If anyone has questions about the Fordham MSRE, let me know!

Hi Bison,

  1. what are your thoughts on the curriculum and instructors?
  2. is it structured, or do you have to come up with your own course of study?
  3. what are you looking to do after graduation?
