Post-Grad Internship in CRE

I’m graduating in May 2024, and I spent much of the year applying to jobs and internships at all of the major CRE firms. The only offer I got back was an 8 month co-op for both current students and recent graduates (which I will obviously be). They told me that I will be transitioned into a full time role contingent on my performance, but I am anxious about the prospect of this. Is this a waste of time? Should I be looking into graduate schools rather than doing this? I’ve read about the co op that the company basically uses it was a training program for a full time job, but obviously nothing is guaranteed. It is a big company with a great real estate division, but it seems really risky.

Is the company interesting to you? Definitely take it if so, as nothing is certain even with grad school. Grad school will always be an option, but securing even an internship can be hard right now.

Yeah, the company is super interesting to me. Initially I was super excited about this opportunity, but after reading a bunch of things online saying a post grad internship looks bad on your resume, I have been very discouraged.

I bet those were different times, everyone will understand as the job environment is rough. I know you most likely want to get out there and start your career and make money, but this sounds like a great opportunity. Learn as much as you can and you won’t regret it. Real experience is key, school helps but it’s not everything. My personal story is i went to construction after undergrad and am currently an MSRE student. It definitely makes most sense to wait a few years and work before doing a grad program if you still need it.

Take it. This job market is abysmal and you'll be competing against people with direct industry experience for entry level roles. By the time your internship is over the market should be warming up again.

Also, take what you read online with a grain of salt. Half the shit on here is written by college students with zero days of industry experience LARPing as Goldman IB analysts. I was unemployed for 10 months after graduating from my MSRE program during the height of covid. Would've killed for a postgrad internship.

Don’t know why a post grad internship would be bad. Work experience is work experience employers would look favorably upon it. I would see it as a positive if someone was applying for a job and could speak to it and what they did.
