Real Estate IB
Hi all,
New to this site and industry (1 YOE post undergrad). Been viewing a lot of the RE forum and not seeing much info on RE IB. Wondering how the process of getting into RE IB works as well as a few more questions?
-
How does the recruiting process work compared to regular IB recruiting?
-
How does comp and hours of RE IB compare to other teams?
-
What exit ops are most common after RE IB, and how much experience is expected in RE IB for these exit ops?
For reference, currently working on CRE lending team at Big 5 Canadian Bank (Non-IB) and would like to try to either internally move into IB RE team at the bank I am at or recruit for another banks team. How difficult would this be considering my current position?
Cheers
Based on the most helpful WSO content, let's dive into your questions about Real Estate Investment Banking (RE IB):
Recruiting Process for RE IB vs. Regular IB:
Compensation and Hours:
Exit Opportunities:
Regarding your current position in CRE lending and the transition to RE IB, it's not uncommon for professionals with a strong real estate lending background to move into RE IB. Your experience in CRE lending would be valuable, especially if you have a solid understanding of real estate finance and have been exposed to deal-making processes. Internal mobility can be a great path if your bank has a strong RE IB team. Otherwise, recruiting for another bank's team is definitely possible, and your current position should be a good platform, especially if you can leverage your network and demonstrate your deal experience and technical skills.
Remember, networking is key in any IB recruiting process, so start reaching out to alumni and professionals in the field to learn more and express your interest. Cheers and best of luck in your journey into Real Estate IB!
