Real Estate Investment Banker or Real Estate Broker ( / luxury RE Broker) in Los Angeles?

Lifestyle? Work hours? Pay? Good Firms? Chances of becoming a Millionaire (haha). Just some questions I have - I'm trying to learn about RE in LA and I appreciate all the responses.

Honestly the top luxury realtors probably make more than what would be considered equal to top REIB. Those guys are not only selling the most expensive property in LA with a shorter sales cycle than commercial, but most of them also develop and flip. A luxury realtor / heavy hitter in LA is like being more of a mini celebrity tbh. From my perspective, it's probably more likely that you'll make money in commercial than the resi side in LA. The majority of those big shot realtors come from families that are connected. Probably a really cool job and lifestyle when you're actually doing those transactions, but not realisitc to make it to that level. I've seen so many realtors who had big dreams enter the LA & OC luxury markets "starry-eyed" and leave after a couple years absolutely defeated. If you went to college and your parents aren't celebrities or entertainment attorneys, go into commercial.

Haha yeah, that makes sense. I am about to start college and will be transferring into USC for the Real Estate Finance major so I'll look at the options available for me. As far as connections go, I'll look into Residential Real Estate if I make a lot of rich friends lmao.

Funniest

if you are trying to weigh these up to decide which you want to pursue as a career you can probably strike investment banking off the list

If you get some amazing opportunity in resi than I guess maybe go for it. Personally, if I was paying so much for a college degree, I wouldn’t want to go into resi at all, like not even consider it lmao. Commercial is a lot more fun but that’s just me.
