Real Estate Investment Interview Thank You

Just finished up a final four interview with a RE investment and development firm. I'm looking to make a lasting impression with the follow-up email. What are the things that I absolutely should or should not include, it is a smaller shop so the role would be an associate one and wearing all hats (underwriting, sourcing, prop management, networking, etc.)

If you want to make a lasting impression, write hand written notes to everyone. Shows that you care and it meant a lot for them to have you in. Don’t do anything crazy as far as content of the email / letter. No one ever won an offer with an amazing thank you email

Yes to this ^. Just make sure you expedite the letter so it doesn't take too long to get there. Assuming it's with a firm local to you so shouldn't be a problem.

"Who am I? I'm the guy that does his job. You must be the other guy."

Don't agree with this. Mine actually got me over the hump for next round, because I didn't do great in one aspect of the interview so my thank you email was my hail mary to stay alive. I know this because my boss told me.

A more likely scenario though is that is your thank you email gets you dinged for saying something stupid. I've seen it happen, so follow the advice above and don't say anything crazy in the email. Keep it simple.

I've always done handwritten cards sent out the same day of the interview so that they are received either the next day or day after. I had personalized stationary made almost a decade ago that I still use (100 cards is a lot of cards), but you don't have to go that far - just don't do it on notebook paper or plain white copy paper. The format should be simple: * Say thank you for their time/interviewing you * Reiterate that you want the job * Say something to tie it back to your interview * End with another thank you/something forward looking.

Do you expedite the shipping? Regular letters and post cards out of the post office by my house take forever, up to 3 days. They would have made their decision long before that.

Are people in here being serious? Not trying to be an ass, but this is 2017. The only thing I see handwritten notes accomplishing, is a good laugh that day around the office.

Depends. A note that comes across as genuine is appreciated, and the hand written aspect helps. If the content is over-the-top or comes across as pompous/arrogant, you are going to be mocked whether it's an email or a handwritten note.
