Real Estate Private Equity Recruiters - Who to Use?
Hey Monkeys,
I have been working on the acquisitions side for a smaller ($10 million - $50 million transaction size) value-add CRE private equity firm in a secondary market for the last three years. I am now looking to make a lateral move to an Acquisitions Associate role within a top tier REPE megafund. I have significant transactional and modeling experience.
Other than Amity, CPI, SG, Glocap, and Bellcast, any recommendation of recruiters I should reach out to? Thanks in advance.

@Pereacquisitions any shot you can expand upon your situation? My goal is to break into a larger fund, but have a feeling I will be starting with a smaller one. Are the mega funds agnostic to deal size or firm name as long as your have experience modeling etc? Would love a little color on your situation.
Sure. So I can't speak as to what these mega funds are looking for, but I am fairly certain, experience is #1, #2, and #3 on their list of importance. Experience includes modeling skills. I almost guarantee the megafund I am about to start the interview process with has never heard of my firm. Deal size probably has no bearing either. Same underwriting concepts are mostly true throughout.
I graduated from a non-target school and have been at my current firm for 2.5+ years on the acquisition side. Fortunately for me, I have gotten experience in all aspects of commercial real estate and mortgage acquisitions (sourcing, underwriting/due diligence, legal, reporting, managing, exiting) across all asset classes (multi-family, hospitality, office, retail, golf courses, etc.).
I found a recruiter and with their help, I think I was able to effectively communicate that through my resume.
If your relatively fresh out of college, I would think going straight to one of these larges funds will be nearly impossible. Getting the best experience you can at a small firm for a couple of years is the way to go.
What is salary range in mid-size REPE firm at associate level. What do you think is a typical career path? I am in Corporate CRE and I am looking to see what else is out there.

0-2 yrs as an analyst. Currently in a top REIB group.
for you, i think it would be best to go to the typical pe recruiters, like oxbridge and glocap. theyll get re opportunities at top pe groups from time to time.
outside of that, work your network. start asking your bosses, co-workers and former co-workers for opportunities and networking contacts. thats your best source b/c the recruiting in the re business is driven by personal references. find out where analysts at your group usually exit too. find them and talk to them.
On the subject of real estate PE interviewing, do you know what would be expected of an undergrad interviewing for an analyst position at a top REPE fund (they're focusing on distressed debt right now). I was a summer analyst for a BB REIB group this summer, but my background is much more in asset level real estate (and real estate pro formas) as opposed to corporate finance. I feel like I can handle technical real estate questions pretty well, but do you think I should be studying LBO models and other corporate finance subjects (I was exposed to this over the summer, but don't feel comfortable enough with it to go into an interview)?
