It’s a great question, but the truth is it’s all hearsay. Most people have worked at one, two, maybe three shops. As you get older you really don’t move around much. It not only gets harder; but there are only so many seats. You’ll really only know those shops you work at. Even shops you used to work at change. So after being gone 9 months, it could be a ‘different’ firm. 
 

Sure, I know that xyz PE fund bought this building in the south Bronx and they are doing a cool redevelopment. But I know nothing contextual about the firm or culture. My favorite REPE shop in nyc is the one that pays me and promotes me. When I move to my next firm, same thing.

Also, if the information isn’t easily researchable, we probably don’t know it either. If we do know it, we probably can’t share it on a forum as it’s proprietary and confidential deal level information.
