REPE MF AM Offer

Hi Fellow Monkeys,

I'm a current senior at a non-target with an RE AM offer at a REPE MF (REPE Top 50, 10Bn+ AUM, multi-asset class) in a major market (NYC/CHI/SF). I was set on a role in acquisitions, however, don't know whether to continue my recruitment in pursuit of an acquisitions role (motivated more than just prestige, income, etc.) at the cost of passing on this offer.

Would appreciate any advice and merry Christmas eve.

Experience in AM and followed by a stint in acquisitions would prepare you well as an investor to understand both sourcing and execution of investment strategy. The brand name should make transitioning to acquisitions doable.

Also, from working at a REIT I know AM at the highest level can be a cushy and fun job.

Regional portfolio managers just drive around checking on properties and clear 200k at the big REIT I was at. Most of them were a bit older but one could get there within six years of experience.

Honestly you should accept the offer you're given but keep interviewing for your ideal role. If you find it it's worth the faux-pax of reneging on your current offer. It's your future, gotta look out for yourself to the fullest extent because no one else will.

I used to work at an acquisitions shop where all the guys were originally in AM. If you can master the AM side of things, learning the acquisitions side of things will not be extremely difficult. There's a lot of overlap in skillset so having an AM background is very useful.

I'd say take the offer assuming the terms are good. Having the name brand will open a lot of doors.
