Should I stay in real estate or move to tech?
I graduated from college 1.5 years ago and was doing front desk work at a corporate bank for almost a year (I hated it, was way too intelligent for it, but it taught me to speak on the phone). I have always had an interest in real estate, and I finally just started a position being an assistant to a broker who has been in the business for about 30 years and has closed over a billion dollars in transactions. I guess opportunities can come from it, especially working closely on a small successful team. However, I am also a female so people less often see them become successful or fit in that world (I find the men to be supportive but it can be hard to fit in). The offices and people also seem to be older fashioned.
I'm conflicted because I also live in the bay area where Tech companies are huge and I hear of people making great money at them. I just got an interview with GOOGLE for an entry level role that pays about the same as the real estate one right now. However, I don't know which has greater opportunities because Google will probably be a bigger team and maybe more anonymity.
I am leaning towards sticking it out at the real estate company for at least a year since I literally just started, but I don't want to do that and realize I hate it. I don't know where I will be happier at long term, as some teammates at the company said they would definitely go to Google if they had the chance to get in.
Do you hate real estate or do you just hate brokerage?
I would just go and interview with Google. Not to be an ass, but it’s not like you have an offer in hand. Googles interview process is mind numbing (my friend had 4 interviews out of school and got dinged in the 5th round which wasn’t even final round.
What is the role at Google?
