Sophomore Recruiting Real Estate Finance

As a current sophomore at a target university for finance positions, what are the best 2026 summer analyst programs in real estate that are yet to drop? I know Blackstone, KKR, Apollo, and most of the big RE PE firms are almost done with their processes, and I'm just wondering which other firms to start networking with.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here’s a strategy to help you navigate sophomore recruiting for real estate finance:

  1. Networking with Regional/Industry-Specific Boutiques: Many boutique firms and smaller real estate private equity shops may not have formalized recruiting timelines like Blackstone or KKR. Start reaching out to these firms now, as they often hire on a rolling basis or later in the cycle. Networking is key—leverage alumni connections, LinkedIn, and industry events.

  2. Collegiate Real Estate Network (CREN): If you’re looking to strengthen your technical skills and network, consider joining programs like the Collegiate Real Estate Network. They offer a summer supplement series covering real estate finance fundamentals, Excel modeling, and more. This could be a great way to stand out in your applications.

  3. Diversity Recruiting Programs: If you qualify, explore diversity programs at firms like Morgan Stanley, J.P. Morgan, and Goldman Sachs. These programs often include real estate divisions and provide a pathway to summer analyst roles.

  4. Target Firms Still Recruiting: While the big names like Blackstone and KKR may have wrapped up, firms like Wells Fargo, UBS, and Deutsche Bank often have real estate-focused roles within their broader summer analyst programs. Keep an eye on their application portals and reach out to recruiters.

  5. Real Estate-Specific Opportunities: Look into firms with strong real estate divisions, such as Brookfield, Starwood Capital, and Hines. These firms may still have openings or could be worth networking with for off-cycle opportunities.

  6. Follow-Up with Contacts: If you’ve already been networking, now is the time to follow up with updates on your progress and express interest in any remaining opportunities. This keeps you top of mind for recruiters and professionals.

Remember, the key is to stay proactive and persistent. Good luck!
