Study abroad in Australia - best programs and entry into development?

Hi everyone,

I’m finishing my MSc in Real Estate in the Netherlands and plan to relocate to Australia with my girlfriend afterward (visa and work rights are sorted). As part of my degree I can spend a term abroad through courses or an internship, and I’d like to use that time in Australia to get familiar with the market and start building connections. My ultimate goal is to end up with a boutique development firm that is involved from acquisition, financing to realization.

I’m curious which universities or programs in Australia give the best exposure to the countries Real Estate industry, or which universities stand out in that regard. I’d also love to hear if there are particular boutique or development firms that are receptive to internationals or grads from abroad, and the best ways to get in front of them.

I'd love to hear from you all.

Thanks in advance

Brother, your life is infinitely more interesting than mine, but I think you’re going to be hard-pressed to find too many people on WSO with intimate knowledge of the Australian real estate job market, much less its ease of access from the Netherlands. Hell, it might be difficult to find advice for your specific situation on the internet in general.

My one piece of advice is that you do not need another graduate degree. I know it is tempting because it can help with Visas and give you that local connection, but you already have a masters. You don’t need to collect more.

If you can track down the two people who have made this transition on LinkedIn or something, contact them directly. If not, this is one of those things where you’re going to have to carve your own path. That can be terrifying, and you will mess up along the way, but man…if you can figure this out, creating success in real estate will be a breeze comparatively.
