Suggestions for Quitting

Leaving my second role in RE to pursue an entrepreneurial, non RE related venture. Any suggestions on how to best exit would be highly appreciated. Would like to maintain good relations in case I ever want to return to RE. Should I communicate this first to my direct manager or should I communicate this to our group head? Should I do this over a casual cup of coffee , after work drink? Should I give a notice beforehand or just ask manager for some time to catch up ?

I left multiple jobs in my career and the most efficient way is to first inform your direct manager. You can do it in a conference room, no need for coffee or drinks. That could make it awkward.  After you speak with your direct manager he/she would most likely inform the group head thereafter and you’ll have a conversation with them. They will try to get you to stay etc. then you will make your rounds and tell the team you’re leaving individually over coffee or quick catch ups. The convo with your manager and group head should not take more than 15 min or so

(1) Explain what you are wanting to do for the next step in your career. Since that isn’t in real estate they should be fairly understanding.

(2) Make sure you give them sufficient notice. Don’t just drop your two week notice on them if you are on a project that your replacement can’t get up to speed on in two weeks. Keep putting in work until your through your notice period and make an effort to get up to speed whoever is taking on your work.
