The 'best' re companies
Evening all,
I'm currently searching for roles while finishing up my senior year of college. It would be really interesting to hear your thoughts on the 'best' re companies in the US, based on the two factors below:
1. Positive impact: whether it be a strong place making ability, architectural excellence, environmentally sustainable etc
2. Company culture
Thanks!
Best companies for what specific sector of RE? Are you asking based merely upon the company’s work environment or financial standing/growth as well?
Both their work environment and growth. Any sector of RE, but especially development
When I first saw the title of this post, I have to admit, I thought it was another "let's rank BX/SW/KKR style posts"... but it's not!!!! It's actually a great question!
However, unless you actually work or worked at these companies, I'm not sure if you could really speak to this. So, I don't know how to answer, either give up anon and personal details, something I don't recommend people do in this type of forum (that's the purpose of PMs). But I really hate to just like walk away from a good post without some answer... so I will name one firm that I think (feel like) would rate high in "positive impact" and "company culture" (I'm basing on industry reputation and people I know there, but be clear I have never worked for this firm or had any direct business dealings)..... BentallGreenOak.
I may be wrong, could be sweatshop for juniors, but I get a good felling. I could name others, but too personal. I could also name many I feel totally suck on these dimensions, but it's not nice to drop name that way in open forum!
Thank you! BentallGreenOak is a really interesting one, good call.
Definitely would like to hear more about major firms that are known for having good cultures, especially in development. Feel like this isn’t talked about a lot or hard to learn about with the limited network one has in undergrad.
What cities are you targeting ?
ATL and Southeast cities in general.
This is a weird one but I think fits. "Patterson REA" is in ATL and I've only had good experiences with ppl there. that said, they do a highly specific type of advisory, so it may not fit what you want. Also they only seem to hire from UGA.
I hadn't previously heard of Patterson REA but they seem really interesting. Definitely quite a big presence of UGA alums there, I guess that's natural given their location focus.
Cardone Capital
If you are targeting Atlanta, I would look into Greystar as well. Have heard generally good things about their culture despite their large size.
BUMP
Alexandria Real Estate Equities is really the leader of the pack in the life science industry. Not only are they the biggest player, but they have a completely different mindset. They invest for the long-term in quality buildings and spend way more in design than any other group would. They even have a "return on design" metric for projects that don't produce immediate financial returns but have some sort of brand impact.
Further, they dig very deep into the science of their tenants and invest actively. I think they were the number #2 most active biotech investor last year...as a real estate company. They take small stakes in many companies in return for better lease economics and will give promising companies with high growth potential favorable terms to get them in their portfolio. Since they are so large, they can fill vacancies with tenants from other buildings. They truly have an amazing model.
Not super knowledgeable about dev in the southeast but you should check out Jamestown. Highly reputable, they do cool projects that I would classify as "placemaking". Can't speak to the office culture.
Heard great things about Berkadia
Please stfu. Don’t come in here and try to give advice to people when you clearly don’t know what the hell you are talking about. Just because you asked 100 questions about berkadia does not mean you are qualified to speak on the work there and what type of shop it is. Know your place.
Damn chill
now that I know he does Loan AM at berkadia I'm going to track him down lol
