Thoughts on BentallGreenOak ??
What does everyone think of BentallGreenOak? In particular GreenOak Real Estate? What sort of people would normally go to a fund like this, and how is it considered in the market?
Really strong fund the people I know who work there are very smart.
Which office is this for?

The GreenOak guys are are former ex-Morgan Stanley who set up shop post-crisis. Smart guys.
From what I understand MSREI was no longer allowed to operate the same way and alot of head/MD's left to start their own shops and do the same thing elsewhere

One of my best friends is a VP in their London office. Very smart guys and culture seems good. Overall I would definitely recommend it.

I can only speak to London but most people seem to come from top tier universities or other name-brand RE shops. Very solid from what I've seen.
Do you have any info on the debt team?
He's on the debt team. Seems like they invest in their people and like to promote from within. Though not sure how things have changed since the merger last year.
Sonny Kalsi is a god damn baller, and thats really where my thoughts begin and end on anything GreenOak related.
GreenOak NY team is strong. Bunch of smart folks.

It always amuses me when someone asks about the reputation of a shop that's in the PERE top 10.
There’s a lot more to a company than it’s PERE ranking. I’ve passed on a top 10 fund because I didn’t jive with the team.
Also in OPs case BentallGreenOak is a mash up of Bentall Kennedy and Green Oak real estate - two entirely different companies before the merger. The two companies definitely have different reputations pre merger, so the team you would be working on matters. This is why people ask questions like this
I get your point, the quote below doesn't really indicate that, but maybe I'm just grumpy this morning and need to give people the benefit of the doubt.
Not to mention there are different pay / prestige / signaling profiles of firms within the same PERE "band." Whether or not it's entirely warranted is a separate discussion, but recruiters / employers will have different thoughts when they see a Starwood / Rockpoint on a resume vs a PGIM / CBRE global investors.
How prestigious is BentallGreenOak?
Yeah this is why I always think it's stupid when someone mentions they work at "Top 25 PERE firm"... LaSalle and TPG are both in the top 25. It's just a meaningless title.
Also no beef to LaSalle or PGIM. Good companies, but there is a big difference between those companies and TPG, Centerbridge, etc. in terms of pay and status with recruiters
