Top Owner/Operators

Hello All. I’m compiling a list of top the owner-operators in the country and trying to make sure I’m not missing anyone.

  1. Brookfield
  2. Greystar
  3. Avalon Bay
  4. Equity Residential
  5. CIM Group
  6. Tishman
  7. RXR
  8. Vornado
  9. Hines
  10. Oxford Properties
  11. Westbrook Partners
  12. Bridge Investment Group

If I’m missing one, let me know. This is strictly for owner/operators, not LPs like BX/SW/Carlyle. Also don’t mention owner/operators who only do transactions in primarily one city(Silverstein, BRP Companies).

Thanks for the help.

The top owner operators change on a city by city basis. To me, this seems like you listed some of the most well known names in the New York area. Yes, Bridge is out of SLC and Hines out of Texas, but what about true owner operators, like Banyan or Crocker in MIA and ATL, or L&L in NYC. The list really is a city by city thing. You really can't say here are the 10 best owner operators in the country. Look at the city you want to work in, and than create the list.

Honestly, you'll probably never know the majority of the top operators because it changes. And what is top: is it most AUM, biggest buildings, largest pipeline? Technically, Blackstone is an owner operator - they do JVs but they also wholly own some things. They are huge..

How are you defining "top"?  Biggest?

Dominium, NRP, the Michaels Organization, L+M Development, Pacific Co's... a lot of the larger affordable players build or complete thousands of new units of housing every year.  Can be hundreds of millions if not more in annual pipeline.
