Transitioning to Hotel/Lodging Real Estate from Logistics/Industrial

Hi all,

I’m a 2 YOE Analyst at a mid-sized shop based in London/Amsterdam, focusing on industrial/logistics real estate. I’m considering transitioning into hospitality over the next 1–2 years but not sure this is the right move.

I’m currently in a strong position—great team, solid deal exposure, and on track for promotion to Associate next year. However, I don’t feel particularly passionate about the asset class, and I’m concerned about getting too specialized and finding it harder to pivot later.

My dilemma is whether to stay longer to build more deal experience—especially given the strong exposure I’m getting—or to start exploring opportunities in hospitality sooner rather than later. I’m unsure how transferable additional DD/UW experience in industrial/logistics would be to a more operational asset class like hotels. I feel that if I were in residential or PBSA, this question might be less relevant.

For context, I have prior internship experience in hospitality and found it much more interesting. That said, deal flow in the sector seems more limited, and I’m not entirely sure how best to approach the transition.

Has anyone here made a similar move? At what stage in your career did you do it, and do you have any advice on timing or how to position yourself?

Thanks in advance!
