Unclear Career Path.

Hey Guys,

I've been working in New York for a little under a year as an analyst. Mainly underwriting retail assets.

I'm trying to see a clear career trajectory, and at my firm the people who make the most are the big brokers making deals. Our firm works like many others, and is only commission. The junior agents grind it out for a year, sometimes more, and make basically nothing and then end up leaving.

I financially couldn't support myself for more than two weeks on solely commission. What options or career paths are there within CRE where I can make the money I want to make down the road?

Thanks.

First question is how much money do you want to make? At some point you're going to have to take risk to make the big $. Whether on the brokerage side trying to win business/close deals or on the principal side raising capital/having some skin in the game.

"Who am I? I'm the guy that does his job. You must be the other guy."
