Undergrad trying to break in to Hotels & Hospitality

Hi all,

Not sure how many on this forum are in the hotel space in CRE, but figured I'd throw this out here and see if anyone had any insight. For context, currently a junior at a Big 10 school with a strong CRE program, but having trouble identifying paths into the hospitality sector as almost all of the opportunities in the alumni network are in more traditional CRE paths (multi/office/industrial brokerage/REPE/development). As I understand it, the two typical entry points in this business seem to be on the brokerage side on either select service (M&M, not sure others) or institutional full service (JLL Hotels/Eastdil/HWE), some in between like HREC, or buy side at a non-MF shop. The part I'm struggling with specifically is finding a foothold in these realms, a lot of the shops don't seem to really offer internships or if they do, a generalist role at larger brokerage shops rather than specifically sitting on the Hotel IS/Capital Markets team. For anyone who's currently in the Hotels space right now, I'd love to know your thought process on where you'd look to start out in today's market, and whether it makes sense to just take the path of least resistance recruiting for more generic roles Junior summer and then re-recruit full time for hotel seats?
