Unpaid Real Estate internships in London?
Hi Everyone,
I am an international student with an MSc in Real Estate Finance. The job market in London is very tight atm, especially for a fresher like myself. I am struggling to break into the industry and came to this forum to ask the members if they can guide me with any firms or contacts who can offer unpaid internships in Real Estate.
I have a background in engineering and corporate experience at a Big Four consulting firm and would appreciate any help.
Thanks.
Hi,
Close friend works at Valor (Industrial REPE doing great). They've been increasing their headcount from something like 25 to 60 in 2 years and since I know the firm they've been having interns (paid I believe) so maybe worth trying to contact some guys there!
Are they hiring ANs for REPE too?
No idea sorry but they tend to recruit quite frequently (headcount increase, turnover -> London head of invest is hard to work with so several people leave (proper grind and US IB culture), also pay is not great during first 3 years approx.)
Ah interesting - good to know. How feasible is it to lateral to a large-cap fund (BAM, APO, etc) c.2y down the line?
They've been killing it with an extremely simple investment philosophy (last mile industrial around London, Paris, Lyon, Manchester...), very slow activity in the investment team for a year but that's the market trend...
Got bilions through BX & QuadReal so definitely exit ops, an associate I know got an offer from Brookfield, you'd be permanently chased by pure industrial players (AM friend received offer from Delin for invest role, we're talking 55k base to 100k base without modeling experience... One Delin partner was at Valor before and I suspect wanted data)
An2 AM he's been getting Asso Invest interviews almost every time he was saying yes to headhunters (nice names but can't remember any MF, potentially Starwood but not sure if he got the interview) so regarding ops to MF in general I don't know to be be transparent, I guess it should open any doors as long as it's industrial related!
Thanks for the suggestion. I have emailed their recruitment team.
Personally (but I may be wrong) I don't think it's a good idea to propose yourself for an unpaid internship. I fully understand your reasons, but I think it signals to the potential employer that you are absolute desperate.
Unfortunately there's not much to do in this current market than refreshing LinkedIn every minute, networking and praying.
I do agree with you and didn’t apply for any unpaid internships untill now, but the more I wait the more gap I have in my resume. I already have 5 months gap after graduating from the MSc.
But I do think that the employers will also see that even though I sound desperate, I do have a good RE foundation and can be a net postive asset for them whilst getting the much needed start.

original post: PM me. I work mostly on the UK team but our mainland Europe team is looking for an intern and it’s easier to recommend one than run an interview process. Could be fully remote or in office.
Thanks a lot, please check your messages.
