Virtual Interview Process during COVID

Thought it could be beneficial to start a discussion for people out there grinding to lateral or land a job during these times. Specifically for REPE.

For anyone who has gone through the interview process and/or conducted interviews for a position, how have you guys seen the process play out virtually? More rounds/meeting before extending a job offer? How many rounds? Higher likelihood of exams? From my POV, seems like the hiring process has dragged on longer than usual times (as expected). Looking for any insight, stories that people have from interviewing over the last few months. Thanks

Was recruiting from mid-summer until a couple weeks ago. I was involved in about 6 interview processes with various firms and noticed two things.

1. The process is taking considerably longer than what I experienced last fall. Scheduling individual zooms is more of a headache than say coming into an office on a set final round to bang them all out at once.

2. Although I have a small sample size I noticed that companies did not have a firm or structured hiring timeline they intended to follow. The pandemic has many firms second guessing what their hiring needs will be in the future business environment and many change course once more news comes out. This is especially discouraging if you are far along in the process only to have the firm say the position is no longer needed or they are now looking for someone with for a more junior or senior position.

Best of luck to you.

I concur. Accepted an offer last month after searching for a while. Firms are definitely taking their time. It’s also common to see firms interview a candidate then just decide to not fill the position at all because they question the real impact it will have on their operations and bottom line. I will also say onboarding hasn’t been as structured as I thought it would being that I accepted an offer at a large, popular firm. But I think you should not let that discourage you. There are positions out there. All it takes is one person to like you and give you a shot.
