Wharton Freshman- REPE?

Hi!

Starting at Wharton in the fall. I've always been interested in RE and recently came across REPE. Three quick questions!

1. Is it possible to recruit into REPE straight out of undergrad? If so, do I need to intern for PE my junior summer or will IB suffice / any undergrad suggestions?

2. How are the long-term career prospects for REPE compared to traditional PE?

Extra info: there is a specific real estate concentration in Wharton that I will likely pursue.

Thanks so much :)

It's not too hard to get into repe out of college. Just network, be social/likable and find some internships.I didn't even have a summer internship my last two summers, did mediocre off cycle internships, graduated during covid and still ended up in repe acquisitions. You’ll make more money in traditional but repe hours can be chill if you’re at the right firm. Just got done surfing during my extra long lunch break and now grabbing food.

Depends what type of firm you’re talking about. If you are talking MF REPE, you’ll probably need to intern at one of these spots if you want to work there full time post grad. You can also lateral over from a different place (or IB) but expectations technically will be higher. Other places (that pay well), you can get directly after school but you must’ve shown an interest in real estate and know your technicals.

I think real estate offers some of the best careers, but I’m biased of course. You will see a discount to corporate PE probably until you get carry, but ideally you will be working much less hours. First Year Associates at my firm pull 300k and at least during the summer, no one works more than 50 hours per week unless they’ve got IC slides and prep.
