What is the job market like for Senior Associate/Jr VP level acquisitions roles?

Background is in RE IB Analyst and RE PE Associate at a large fund. Been doing my own thing (unrelated to RE) for the past couple years. Looking for get back to the investing side of things.

On LinkedIn, I am not seeing many Sr Associate / VP level acquisitions roles...which is concerning lol. Is the hiring market already cold given the economic environment? Would love any guidance.

Yeah that role/experience level is tough bc most of the postings I’ve seen want:

Associate - 3-5 years exp.

VP - 7-9 years exp.

So I guess the senior associate/vp with like 5-6 years experience doesn’t really have a good spot to go.

That said, I agree with the above poster. Wdym you’ve been doing your own thing? How many years total experience do you have? I would probably try applying to associate roles and maybe once you have the offer you can negotiate title / comp.

They can/do "negotiate" titles, but usually works better/more often in down shifts.... i.e. apply or be considered for a VP/manager role but be offered/agree to take Associate/Sr. Associate (sometimes with a hypothetical clear path/timeline to promotion).

Both from personal experience and observations.... easier to apply "up" (like at or above where one's resume says they should land) than apply "down". This works as they may "like" you but just see you fitting in better at lower level (harder to push up), and the very practical budget constraint (i.e. easier to pay less for lower title, than get more approved for higher title, that is really main reason this works).

They do all the time.  Title is a cheap way to get someone with more experience for less money.  Stroke their ego a bit and hope they accept the low pay.
