What would I find in NYC?
I’m the co-founder of a small CRE investment co in the southeast (self-storage). Creating $600k-$1MM a year in equity (unrealized until a capital event). Cash is always a pain, but overall a decent living.
I’d love to move to NYC and am curious what type of role/comp I’d be able to land in New York. I’m primarily on the asset management side, though I have a significant hand in the underwriting and negotiations and handle everything once we go UC on a new deal. Basically have a hand in everything given the small size of the company.
Any insights into what I’d be able to land? 3 years self-storage AM experience, also 3 years in corporate RE (office/industrial) with stints before that in brokerage and consulting.

NYC offers immense opportunities, but it’s essential to weigh the potential career growth against the lifestyle and financial trade-offs. If you’re ready to embrace the challenge, it could be a game-changer for your career trajectory.

You could try to land the role at Merit Hill - they are recruiting for an asset manager. Could you keep developing storage and move to Manhattan?
You could definitely find an asset management role (or acquisitons). Hiring is tough right now as a lot of NYC operators / developers are working thru issues in their portfolio. Most local developers do office or multi - both of which are hurting in NYC. Asset management roles will definitely be easier to find.
Why do you want to change what you’re doing? Creating $600K-1M in equity annually seems pretty great. Especially since it’s for yourself and you get the tax benefits.
An asset management role in NYC will pay all over the map but assume $200-400K all in and depending on seniority.
