When is it okay to switch jobs?

Okay so I made another post about being broke and unhappy. And I am lol. I was wondering when is it okay to switch jobs. Like I said in that post, I’m in NYC, working 100% commission as a broker and have no support but my savings and second job. I’m truly not happy and this isn’t what I want to be doing. I’m not going anywhere and will stick it out for as long as I can but I do need something else that will allow me to stay in CRE and in this market. I have decent internships and decent GPA, I’m already seeing some traction at a few developers, debt funds and other brokerage where I can be a salaried analyst.

im in retail leasing and took the job because I didn’t have much of a choice, didn’t get any good offers. The plan was/is to do this and network into something else because it is a good company name, they do a lot of deals and I get to be in the city. Sadly, I underestimated how hard the job is and there is little in the way of mentorship or training. I’m only a few weeks in but feel sort of lost. Any advice would be appreciated and thank you to those who replied on my other thread for your kind words and advice.

This is my first job out of school. I know switching quickly is bad but I have an actual reason, if I were to follow the rule and stick it out for at least a year, I’d probably starve lmao, I literally can’t make a living in the medium term if I stay. Short sighted to take the job like this but didn’t want to sit on my ass post graduation.

You are 100% commission... you can switch jobs the second you get one that pays! Since no real need to "resign" from this one to go job hunting full-time, you just quit when the new one comes along. This is about the easiest "stint" (if you even bother to keep on your resume, I'd delete soon after the new job probably) in the world to explain...

Interviewer... "Why did you leave?"

You... "I wasn't making any money, and I like to eat"

Interviewer... "Makes sense"

leave the second you get a paying gig!
