Why does HR do this?

Brookfield has posted an analyst job within their opportunity fund probably 30 times over the past few months. Every time they post the job, leave it up for 24 hrs and then it expires. Then they’ll do it again a day later. Often times it doesn’t even have that many applications. Just seems like bizarre behavior

Awhile back HFF guys told me that they would continuously post an analyst position even if they didn't have an open position. Their reasoning was that they would keep it open and collect applications so when a position was open they already have a stack of resumes to choose from.

May be something similar.

I heard companies sometimes do this but I wonder how often you actually get an callback out of it.

I'm guessing your stumbling upon some part of internal HR compliance/IT system. Like any job created requires 24 hr of posting as a minimum. The role is probably pre-filled from a summer intern or on-campus recruiting process that took actual applications long ago. This is probably technocratic to finalize and comply with internal regs.

At a previous employer, I'd always get a call after agreed to hire someone (like negotiated terms and all), to do this EEOC type compliance paperwork. It was always done after the fact, and sometimes they would re-advertise on the website just because. I'd see stuff pop-up or get calls on jobs for things we had internally closed, it was weird.

If that is the case, I'm guessing any applications that get submitted never get reviewed, they just close the posting.

Could be HR reporting requirements or could be because of LinkedIn's algorithm. Not all jobs on LinkedIn were posted by the employers, and sometimes the postings get stuck in a feedback loop of pulling from other job boards (Indeed, Monster, etc.) that make it seem like the job is being posted over and over again. For big institutional jobs like these, you should 1) apply on the companies actual website and 2) reach out to someone / multiple people at the firm to make sure a live body is getting a copy of your resume.

God that's dumb. I hope some HR flunkie at Brookfield sees this thread and realizes how retarded they look for this nonsense

I believe many kids say they want to be successful. Being very well paid, being more than a bureaucratic stick in the mud, having strong career options for later in life fit in with that dream. Corp Dev fits that bill much more than HR does.

Stop being white knighting for girls in HR. They won’t fuck, and if they do, you’ll probably get a false rape charge and fired.

A lot of times, deleting the old (even if a few days old) and reposting is a way to keep your Company job post ad the most relevant and top of the list each day, for free. For a highly sought after job (where say 500applicants for one position), usually folks search it so you don’t have to play the reposting game as an employer. The recruiter seems to be taking it to an extreme with relevancy. And/or they are really really searching for the best candidate they could find.

Say you were recruiting for 10 jobs at any given time and now only one. You add value to the search by reposting everyday.

“Bravo, Mr/Ms HR for big company recruiter (with Real American Heros theme song)”. Just having fun. My speculation is this is the strategy and it’s a smart one.
