Working in Senior Housing advice
Hi everyone. I’m starting a new position as a senior analyst in senior housing in NYC and wanted some advice for working in this asset class? This is all new to me and I worked in office before so I really don’t know too much. It was an internal move and thought I would try something new. Anything helps, thank you.
I work in seniors in NYC. Would be happy to discuss with you if you want to connect
Feel free to connect if you have specific questions..used to develop/acquire senior housing
Probably not the answer you're looking for but I've spent considerable amount of time in this sector and I would caution you not to get pigeonholed as a 'seniors' specialist. COVID-19 has and is continuing to ravage the industry. I've witnessed a ton of people jumping ship, not because they want to but because they have to.
While I hear what you’re saying and it’s been a tough go of it in seniors the last 18 months, the demographics are still in favor for the industry and the dislocation will eventually create opportunity. It’s more a matter of when, not if.
Totally hear you on leaving though. I did senior for a hot second as an area of coverage and hated it. I have friends who do it and love it. But I found it very morbid and basically like operating a hotel. The business, in general, is very very hard.
