3 yrs am experience from Italy, kill my resume

Hi guys,

after almost 3 years spent working in a real estate fund am firm (think of the european equivalent of REITS), I'm thinking about an MBA or a new career in banking, pe, vc or bartender in a south pacific island.. ;-p

I'm from Italy and I've studied in one of the best universities in the country.

Anyway, my resume absolutely S U C K S!

Thank you!

AsatarGo to Mergers&Inquisitions and basically copy their example resume for layout. I noticed you are inconsistent with capitalisation in your Computer Skills section, i.e. 'Operating Systems' (both letters capitalised) and 'Trading systems'.

Thank you very much!

Did you go to Bocconi? You will have a good chance with BBs in London if you did.

But your resume right now is a mess. Take Asatar's advice and once you reformat according to the template on Mergers&inquisitions repost it here.

Ok, I reformatted my resume using the M&I template, but I would like to get some opinions about the contents!

To last_stop, not Bocconi, something similar but with much less international prestige..

Alright, this is a step in the right direction. I would edit your original post with the updated link so that future viewers of this page can comment on your latest version.

  1. Since you've only been working for about 2 years, I would put the "Education" section before "Professional Experience"
  2. "Investment Analyst" --> what group were you in? Was this in asset management, investment banking, sales & trading? I would be more specific, for example "Investment Analyst, Energy and Power Trading Desk" or "Investment Banking Analyst, Natural Resources Group" etc. obviously, these are examples
  3. Do you have any other work experience? Extracurricular activities?
  4. Computer skills, languages and interests should all be one section: "Skills & Interests," with "Computer Skills," "Languages" and "Interests" as bullet points.
  5. For Computer Skills, this should be one line maximum. I would get rid of Microsoft Office (everyone knows you can use them) and operating systems. Keep: Bloomberg (don't need to write Professional), Datastream, Matlab (don't need to explain what it is), Metastock, Insider 3000, and then your statistical programs if you have space.
  6. Languages should also be one line. If it helps save space, reformat like this: English (fluent), Italian (fluent), French (conversational), German (basic), etc
  7. Check with the specific bank and/or country on whether your disclaimer "I authorize..." is necessary. I've never seen it on a US, UK or French CV thus far...

good luck.

Thanks, last_stop, I made some other changes in my resume following your hints, but I have a couple of doubts:

  • Are you sure is better to put the education section on top?
  • My bachelor's degree final grade was not as good as the master's one, so I usually leave it out, do you think I need to include it?

I don't have other relevant work experience. I usually include the disclaimer pursuing the italian privacy law, but I will leave it out for now.
