Do I have any chances with this resume ?

Hello everyone,

I hope that all is well.

I am currently on a gap year, and trying to land an IB internship for the second part of the gap year, and a summer internship (that would be the perfect route, but I understand that it's very hard), so I am trying to make my resume as interesting as possible.

So this one is the generic one, but I might do some changes, because the Proparco internship I am currently at is very similar to Private Debt (mainly debt financing and not equity as I mentionned), and the Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations when I think about it is a very close to Private Equity (except that they had stakes in public companies too, but like 2 or 3)

And for each internship posting i'll find i'll try to tailor it, for instance at Proparco I will also be working with the Infrastructure team, so I'll get some exposure to Project Finance and Infrastructure modelling, and I also had experience with some Infra & Energy portfolio companies at Caisse des Dépôts, so I'll make a tailored one that positions me as someone who had Infra exposure.

Please tell me what do you think, what can I change, anything to remove, anything to add ?

(I am aware of some typos that I will fix !)

Thank you so much for your help

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here’s what you need to focus on to improve your chances with your resume:

  1. Tailoring for Specific Roles: Highlighting your experience in Private Debt, Private Equity, and Infrastructure/Project Finance is a great strategy. For each application, ensure your resume emphasizes the most relevant skills and experiences for the specific role. For example:

    • For IB roles, emphasize financial modeling, valuation, and deal experience.
    • For Infrastructure/Project Finance, focus on your exposure to energy and infrastructure portfolio companies and any modeling work.
  2. Quantify Achievements: Wherever possible, include measurable results or specific contributions. For example:

    • Instead of saying "worked with Infrastructure team," specify "analyzed $X million in infrastructure projects" or "supported the financing of X energy projects."
  3. Structure and Clarity: Use a clean, professional format like the WSO Investment Banking Resume Template. Ensure your resume is concise, ideally one page, and free of typos or formatting inconsistencies.

  4. Key Sections to Include:

    • Education: Highlight academic achievements, relevant coursework, and any prestigious institutions or programs.
    • Work Experience: Clearly outline your roles, responsibilities, and accomplishments at Proparco and Caisse des Dépôts. Use bullet points to make it easy to read.
    • Skills: Include technical skills like financial modeling, Excel, and any relevant software or tools.
    • Interests: Add a section for personal interests to make your profile more relatable, but keep it professional.
  5. Networking: While refining your resume is crucial, networking is equally important. Reach out to alumni, attend industry events, and leverage LinkedIn to connect with professionals in IB and related fields.

  6. Mock Reviews: Consider using WSO’s Resume Review service or seeking feedback from professionals in the industry to ensure your resume is polished and competitive.

By tailoring your resume for each application and emphasizing your relevant experiences, you’ll significantly improve your chances of landing an IB internship. Good luck!
