French Student CV Review for IB
Hey everyone,
I am a french finance graduate student (graduating in 2012) and I would like to apply for a summer internship or off-cycle at a buldge bracket investment Bank. I would appreciate any comments on how to improve my CV, make it look more professional, improve presentation, wording as well as general overview. What do you think recruiters will like or dislike on my CV?
Should I include my grades? I have a relatively low undergraduate overall GPA (2.9) and a Major GPA of 3.5. I have currently an average of 14/20 (approximately 3.5 GPA) in my graduate degree.
Should I include relevant courses in my EDUCATION section?

Overall it's a pretty strong resume.
You need to include GPA otherwise banks will assume it's really bad. Expand the section on investment club, it's finance-related but you only have two lines on it. If you lack space remove CFA from education and put it in interests/other. Why did you include high school? Was it to show that you lived in Asia for a few years? It's enough to mention it in the interests section (like you do).

Hey buddy, I'm from Montreal too so I know how HEC places its students. Let's just say HEC doesn't have the best track record, McGill has better IB placement.
Anyways, so What happened after you interned with BNP Paribas ? Looks like it went downhill from there, I doubt this experience is really relevant for IB. Not to mention that you GPA is quite low.
To be honest, I just don't think your resume is good enough for you to break in the canadian IB scene. And I think it's even worse to enter the french IB scene. Remember you will be competing with top notch people (Poly X and other engineer schools) when applying there.

Actually my internship at BNP Paribas was when I was 16 (I am 23). I did a one month internship there as part of my high school curriculum. I put this in my CV to show my early interest in banking. Do you think I should remove it? It is true that McGill has a better IB placement and reputation however HEC Montreal is not a bad school either. I am currently studying at Edhec Business School in France which is quite renowed among french business school, especially for finance. What do you think I should do in order to get an internship in Europe or Canada?

You should network your ass off and leverage your connection with the HEC alumni network. My big problem is that the recruiters will have a hard time understanding your career path, there is no IB experience and the rest of your internships are irrelevants. Also, there is nothing that stands out in your resume, it's an average joe resume.
I always tell people that they need to write their resume in a way that even ordinary experience looks spectacular (without lying). Try and do that, be original.
And, once again, network your ass off. This ain't NYC, the spots are even more so limited in Canada.
I am definitely trying to network as well as applying online. Could you give me a quick example on how I could spin one of my ordinary experience and make it look spectacular.....without lying? I soon have an interview with Desjardins securities and I am trying to network my way into CIBC World Markets. Could you give me any informations on those 2?
