Honest Opinions--Rising Junior BB IBanking Hopeful!!

Hi All!

Please critique my resume, all input is greatly appreciated. Just a bit of background info: I am a rising junior at a US News top 20 school that is typically considered a semi-target but is supposedly getting gradually more respect on the street. Additionally, my current internship is at a solid MM bank ranked in the top 20 in the US based on asset size. What can I do to improve my chances for a BB SA position? Additionally, I am studying abroad in the spring, so what are the best ways to get in touch with BBs in order to get an earlier interview? Thanks!

Sorry for the huge tangent, but why do people keeping using the expressions "rising sophomore" and "rising junior". What exactly is the "rising" part supposed to mean?

It just means that I will be a junior in the fall. Hence, a "rising sophomore" is someone who just finished their freshman year and is in the summer before their sophomore year.

I don't know if it's because of the razume format, but you have a blank 2nd page. Make sure to make it a pdf first so you don't accidentally have a blank second page every time you submit resume.

Additionally, make sure to put it in "M&I format", which I'm too lazy to look up a link for right now. Yours is pretty close now, but that's pretty much the industry standard so you should definitely adapt it.

Grade 8 is the level referee is the level you start at. I had it when I was twelve. Probably not the best thing to put on your resume. If you were a grade 5 or lower, that would be a lot more impressive.

Unless its some prestigious award like a National Merit Scholarship or close to perfect score on the SAT, high school information is not necessary or relevant at this point in your college career. Your college GPA is strong enough anyway. Also, if you are majoring in finance at a school with a respectable / known brand, its a given that you have taken corporate finance and accounting classes, so that may also not be necessary. Either way, you should axe the high school stuff. There's a pretty huge gap between the 2009 end date of your community outreach bball program (which was also a high school activity. what have you done in college??) and the May 2011 start date of your RE internship. Use the extra space created after getting rid of HS info to put something relevant into that time period - perhaps expand on the leverage buyout division activity you have under the "volunteering" section. Other than that, you seem like an interesting candidate. Good luck.

Toss anything to do with your high school experience.

It needs to be formatted better. For example there are two spaces between your 2 work exp positions. Also wtf is up with your skills/activities/interests? I'd break out Activities and Leadership into one separate section, because that is a huge component in the HR screening process, you absolutely want it to stand out, and I think it looks fucking retarded the way it is right now.

Toss the honors & awards section and put whatever you have in education.

your formatting blows, fix it.

Banking34075ok, thanks guys! what do you think my chances at a BB or top boutique or for next summer? what can I do besides formatting in order to improve my chances?

IMO, so long as you polish up/reformat your resume, I can't imagine a company that does ocr at your school not giving you an interview. You seem to have everything companies look for and seem like an interesting person on top of it. Obviously, no one is guaranteed a position at a top bank, but I'd say you have as good of a chance as any.
