How to write Private Equity Internship Experience on CV?

Hello,

Currently recruiting for analyst roles at IB for London. I am quite unsure how to write finance experience on CV - I assume it is deal by deal. I have only previously worked in consulting hence the question. Below are the points I have on my CV. Let me know if it is okay. For context, this was at a search fund & none of the below were acquired.

  • Sourced 30+ investment opportunities in [geography], conducted due diligence, and supported investment memorandums for target companies ranging from €20m to €60m EV within different macro sectors like textiles, medical equipment, software, etc.

Selected Target Companies Analyzed:

  • €30m Data Compliance Software CompanyPerformed valuation multiples analysis, assessed business model sustainability, benchmarked competitive landscape, calculated SaaS metrics and reviewed preliminary P&L to identify avenues for value creation
  • €20m Legal EdTech Software Company – Built simple operating model, evaluated potential to develop EdTech platform & its revenue potential, and analyzed target market size & growth trends in the legal sector
  • €50m Road Infrastructure Maintenance Company – Built simple operating model to forecast revenue and margins, conducted valuation multiples benchmarking, assessed level of fragmentation & potential for building investment platform, and mapped 20+ competitors

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's how you can structure your Private Equity internship experience on your CV to make it stand out for IB analyst roles:

Private Equity Intern

Search Fund Name | Location | Dates

  • Sourced 30+ investment opportunities in [geography], conducting due diligence and supporting investment memorandums for target companies with enterprise values ranging from €20m to €60m across sectors such as textiles, medical equipment, and software.
  • Selected Target Companies Analyzed:
    • €30m Data Compliance Software Company: Performed valuation multiples analysis, assessed business model sustainability, benchmarked competitive landscape, calculated SaaS metrics, and reviewed preliminary P&L to identify avenues for value creation.
    • €20m Legal EdTech Software Company: Built a simple operating model, evaluated the potential to develop an EdTech platform and its revenue potential, and analyzed target market size and growth trends in the legal sector.
    • €50m Road Infrastructure Maintenance Company: Built a simple operating model to forecast revenue and margins, conducted valuation multiples benchmarking, assessed market fragmentation and potential for building an investment platform, and mapped 20+ competitors.

Key Tips for Improvement:

  1. Quantify Impact: If possible, include metrics or results that showcase the impact of your work (e.g., "Identified €X million in potential value creation opportunities").
  2. Highlight Transferable Skills: Emphasize skills like financial modeling, valuation, and market analysis, which are directly relevant to IB roles.
  3. Keep it Concise: Ensure each bullet point is impactful and avoids redundancy.
  4. Tailor for IB: Focus on deal-related tasks and financial analysis to align with the expectations of IB recruiters.

This format ensures clarity, professionalism, and relevance for your target roles.
