How would you say it?

I'm trying to figure out how to phrase something on my resume in an appropriate way. What I did was search for the firm's competitors online, finagle out their client lists from their website, then get all the relevant contact information for the sales team to contact. I'd like to put it as "sourcing" somehow but I can't figure out a good way. Any suggestions?

You can spin this a bunch of ways: 1. Marketing research 2. Marketing resource developement 3. Lead Generation 4. Marketing Trend Analysis 5. Trend Analysis 6. Industry Targeting

The list is almost endless, just get creative without lying: ethics are important. My first internship was looking up phone numbers for a sales group to call [that's right, there's something lower in status than cold calling], and they spun the job as 'market research analyst' when I applied, so I stuck that on the resume. This actually got me into an ER internship.....

sound okay? it looks like we were doing about the same thing

I'm certainly no resume genius, so take my approval with a grain of salt, but that sounds pretty good. The only thing you might want to consider adding is some sort of 'result'. Again, I'm no master, but often times people don't want to read just what you did, but how what you did had a positive impact...so essentially quantifying what you did. So something like, "...leading to 23 new clients" or "...increasing AUM by $3mm" or something along those lines that shows you were adding value. Good luck.
