IBD Resume review for an off-cycle internship
Hi,
I was wondering if you could make any comment on my resume please.
I am a french student at HEC Montreal and I am aiming an M&A off-cycle internship for January 2010 in London or Toronto at a BB. What do you think about that? I have also one year left at HEC Montreal which would be my major. Should I put "Expected Major" or should I leave it that way?
Any comments on my resume will be appreciated.

Please don't post multiple topics. Patience yields results, and when it comes to resume checks, lack of replies usually means a lack of immediately recognizable faults with it.

I wouldn't put the countries of your employment in caps and bold; my attention immediately is drawn there and for what? It wastes precious seconds that an IB recruiter will look at your resume... Also, if you put your workplaces in caps, do it for all of them, as well as your schools.
For your employment at Aforge Finance, is that the Mergers & Acquistions Department? Just writing "Mergers & Acquisitions" makes me scratch my head.

Taking a quick look, a few things jump out:
You can't put end dates to the future - if you are still there, leave it as present. In your current work experience it should be "... - Present" not "... - Nov. 2009" since it is not yet November 2009. Regarding your education, from the beginning and end date and instead insert in its place "Anticipated June 2011" or if you stick with the abbreviations "Anticipated Jun. 2011"
Column the bullets for Major and GPA so that your Major is a bullet and then your GPA has its own bullet next to it, on the same line. Also, assuming the GPA is cumulative, I would write "Cumulative GPA" as the first bullet, and to the right of it, the 2nd bullet on the line, I would put "Major:..." - in other words, I would lead off with GPA, not Major (but this is sort of stylistic, more than necessity).
Caps are for abbreviations - if you write out the word France, no need to Cap it - "France, Chile..." are fine, you don't need "FRANCE, CHILE..."
I would list Honors as its own line and include the scholarship, and the Mercury Profile (I'm not actually sure what that is...), rather than have 2 separate lines.
All verbs should be past tense for your experiences.
You need to work on the language surrounding your experiences, phrasing, punching up the verbs, and expanding on what you did/how you did it.
For Merrill - I would remove "current..." and "Wealth Management Analyst" and replace it with "Analyst (Intern)" or just "Intern" considering if you were FT, I don't think it would just be from July to November.
For AFORGE - I would change M&A to "Investment Banking" and change SA to "Summer Analyst - Mergers and Acquisitions Group"
I am a bit confused by your last experience (oldest) - what is the name of the company - what is it - the formatting is different from your previous 2 and a bit confusing. There is no need to bold the occasional word or phrase. Again, the sentences need to be cleaned up a bit.
For "Languages" remove "mother tongue" and rephrase the line as follows "Languages: French (native); English and Spanish (Fluent)"
Take out the word "Professional" from the "Skills" line
Your interests sound a bit odd - I would remove personal development, and just write "Psychology and physical fitness" or weightlifting, running, swimming, and so forth (list activities). Also the activities can be deleted and merged into your interests line.
