Listing MSc Finance program before matriculation on your Resume
Hello fellow monkeys. I am a STEM graduate from Europe and have been admitted to one of the top MSc Finance programs in EU (think LSE, Imperial, HEC, Bocconi etc). I want to break into Investment Banking (M&A specifically), but I don't have relevant finance experience. So, I am currently searching for investment banking internships in boutiques in my area.
My question is the following: Would you list the university and program in which you have been accepted in your CV before the start of the program?
I am thinking of writing something like: University name, Program Title etc, and instead of the bullet with your GPA, insert a bullet that says something like September 2014 matriculation.
I understand that you write about experiences that you have already had in your resume. However, my rationale is that that by listing the program, I would increase my chances of getting interviews (as I mentioned before, consider that I don't have any relevant finance internships).
How tough is it to get into the program? Did you interview to get in, essays or anything above filling in a form with a mark from a reputable undergrad - my first impression is that it weakly signals you have interest in finance but a lack of finance experience then suggests you aren't as serious about finance as the next person (who will have experience)
I'm not from EU so I don't understand the merit of getting into these schools
I did that in the past when looking for internships, both for school and internship. especially for school it is good since the fund will not be afraid you are looking for a full time as they will see that you have one more year ahead of yourself for the master studies. just my 2c
Putting Grad School On My Resume Before Attending (Originally Posted: 12/06/2015)
I don't officially start grad school until late January. However, I am already using the school email address to start networking with alumni. I've also signed up for updates from a bunch of different student organizations and have been networking with recruiters/anyone of importance who is willing to talk to me.
Would it be unethical for me to list the school on my resume with an expected graduation date, even though I have yet to step foot in a classroom there? I've already sent my non-refundable deposit and am 99.9% sure that I will be attending.
That sounds fine.
Put MSF on resume before starting ? (Originally Posted: 11/20/2013)
Hi WSO,
I was recently accepted into a MSF programme at a target university. The programme starts in Fall 2014, and thus I have the opportunity to do one more internship during Summer 2014 before the programme.
However, I am presently at a non-target university, and I would really like to leverage the MSF university's brand to land the best summer internship that I can get. Is it permissible to put the MSF programme on my resume right away, while noting that I have been 'accepted into the programme and will be attending in 2014'? I can note the start and end dates of the programme as well, if required.
I would really appreciate anyone's thoughts on this matter.
Absolutely, that is how I was able to land my internship this past summer.
Oh absolutely. Put in on there. It shows you are committed to Finance and also of course, the added cache helps a lot.
Put it on, make sure the dates align so you don't lie. i.e expected graduation.
Thanks guys, much appreciated. Will definitely include it on my resume when applying.
