London FT/OC 2026 CV Review

Just revamped my CV ahead of 2026 application cycle. Any feedback is welcome, especially interests section, I've put a few things to show some personality but think it may be a bit much. Looking to apply for Markets based roles (AM, S&T, ER)

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some key points to consider for your CV, especially for Markets-based roles (AM, S&T, ER):

1. Interests Section:

  • The interests section is a great way to showcase personality, but it should remain professional and relevant. Avoid overloading it with too many items. Instead, focus on a few unique and specific interests that can serve as conversation starters during interviews.
  • Examples of strong interests for Markets roles might include:
    • Competitive chess (demonstrates strategic thinking).
    • Marathon running (shows discipline and endurance).
    • Following macroeconomic trends or specific industries (relevant to the role).
    • Unique hobbies like wine tasting or photography (adds personality but keep it concise).

2. Tailoring for Markets Roles:

  • Highlight any experience or skills related to financial modeling, market analysis, or trading simulations.
  • Include coursework or certifications like CFA Level I, Bloomberg Market Concepts, or relevant university modules.
  • If you’ve worked on live deals or projects, ensure they are clearly articulated with measurable outcomes.

3. Bullet Points:

  • Each bullet point should add value and demonstrate impact. Use action verbs and quantify achievements where possible.
  • For example: "Developed a trading strategy that increased portfolio returns by X% over Y months."

4. Leadership and Teamwork:

  • Markets roles often require collaboration. Highlight any leadership roles or teamwork experiences, even if they’re outside finance.

5. Formatting:

  • Ensure your CV is clean, concise, and easy to read. Use a professional template, like the ones available on WSO (e.g., Investment Banking Resume Template).

If you’re still unsure about the interests section or other parts of your CV, consider posting it for feedback on WSO forums. The community often provides detailed and constructive advice!
